Safe use of candles

Candles are an open flame. Please read these instructions before first use and keep them.

Basic warnings

Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.
Place candles on a level, stable, heat-resistant surface.
Leave at least 10 cm between candles and at least 30 cm from flammable objects (curtains, paper, decorations, wood).
Do not burn a candle in a draught or near a fan or open window.
Do not move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is still liquid.

Burning correctly

Trim the wick to about 5 mm before every burn.
On the first burn, let the wax melt to the edge of the vessel, usually 2 to 3 hours.
Do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
Stop using the candle when about 1 cm of wax remains at the bottom.
Extinguish with a lid or snuffer rather than blowing.
Remove matches, wick trimmings and any other objects from the wax.

Wreaths with candles

An advent wreath is made of dry plant material which is flammable. Never leave candles on a wreath unattended, and extinguish them before they burn down to the level of the decoration or branches. Keep the wreath away from heat sources.

Labelling and ingredients

Scented candles may contain fragrance substances that are declarable allergens. The list of relevant ingredients and warnings is on the label on the base or side of the product and on each product page.

First aid

If hot wax contacts skin, cool the area immediately with cold water. Do not force off hardened wax. Seek medical advice for burns.
